Uechi-Ryu: A Pillar of Okinawan Karate

Uechi-Ryu is one of the major traditional styles of Okinawan Karate.
It was founded by Master Kanbun Uechi, who brought back three core forms (kata) from China.
Today, the head of the Uechi-Ryu family is Master Sadanao Uechi.

My Journey in Uechi-Ryu Karate

began practicing Uechi-Ryu Karate in Toulouse, France, at the Shubukan Dōjō, as a member of the Uechi-Ryu Karatedō Association.
While traveling around the world for my career in cycling, I had the great fortune to meet Master George Mattson, a pioneer of Uechi-Ryu in the West.

Thanks to this connection, I’ve been able to train under two distinct lineages—both deeply rooted in Okinawan tradition. This unique blend has become one of the greatest treasures of my martial arts journey.

Since then, I’ve continued to train and share what I’ve learned.
I began teaching in France in 2019, and by 2021, I expanded my instruction to the United States.

Teaching Uechi-Ryu: France, the USA, and Beyond

Today, I teach Uechi-Ryu Karate in Toulouse and at the Mattson Academy in the United States.
I also instruct online through the Uechi-ryu Ōryūkai Community of Practice, helping students from all over the world access traditional training—no matter where they live.

International Competition During the Pandemic

In 2020, during the global pandemic, I participated in the International Super Enpi Online Tournament.
I won the silver medal (2nd place) and had the opportunity to connect with karateka from across the globe—an unforgettable and uplifting experience during difficult times.
